"It's not even Feast Time and she's pushing us like dogs." Ashton felt snow fall around him in the outskirts of Kalani, with the homes and the Ondor well lit in a short walk. From the east, the winds blew over the walls, making the snow less visually appealing and much, much colder. He shivered, and blew on his hands before rubbing them to get blood back. They were gloved, but his paws below were red and sore from splitting wood. His arms were getting tired from carrying wood to the carpenters in the newly repaired visitor homes.

"Hey! I resent that." Dylan, to, was in a much similar situation, but his ears were long at least. They provided more warmth than the dinky little human ears Ashton acquired along with his bearlike features. Ashton glanced at Dylan, just now remembering his canine companion wasn't a dog in "pet" like habits. "Sorry, I forgot. I'm still not used to being, uh,…" he embarrassed himself, and started digging around for the newest tree shipment. It was buried under snow.

"Alone? You aren't an urchin like you were in Tranquility. No one here is what they were before they settled in. Any elves here are visitors, and even then, temporary visitors. Thankfully." Ashton had nothing to say to that, not quite over the possibility that he could be kicked out and lose what scavenger friend he had manage to find. "Hey." Dylan called again. Ashton stopped and looked up. He braced for some sort of violent retaliation, or at least a snow ball. The white near sphere object smacked him right in the face.

He had to smile as he wiped off the snow.

"Hey what?" The bear pointed to the walls. "This isn't so bad. Audry could've put us on wall guard duty for stealing from her kitchen. She was nice enough to just try to freeze our limbs off and not feed us to…you know what out there." Both boys grimaced at the idea despite the light tone to it all. "Yeah. I suppose so. Instead, she's bringing them in here. I doubt the adventures will stay to long though. Unless they're merchants or traders anyways. And all our work will go for nothing." Dylan shrugged and began dragging unearthed trees closer to the saws. Ashton went to help him. "I dunno", Dylan said between visible breaths, "at least we're off the hook for wall duty. Especially now. It's probably starving now and it'll have anything for dinner." Both boys laughed and only faltered when a starved roar echoed over the plains.
